At Shepherd’s Care at Home, our clients feel like part of our family. We feel encouraged when we receive notes telling us the impact we have on people’s lives or the lives of loved ones. Our friend Walter recently sent us a message about his experiences with Shepherd’s Care at Home and his mom’s caregiver, Colleen.
Soon after mom arrived at her first care facility, after her dementia diagnosis, we realized a companion could greatly enrich her life. We asked the Care Manager at that facility if they could provide us with someone suitable. Unfortunately, there was a huge language barrier and the companions spent most of their time watching TV with mom.
My niece contacted Shepherd’s Care at Home on my behalf and they gladly found the perfect match for mom. Mom may have dementia but she knows when someone is visiting because they have to. That was never, ever the case with Colleen!
She and Mom seemed to hit it off right away. Colleen has a fantastic, positive attitude and always does her best to make mom’s mornings brighter for her.
Sitting alone in an unfamiliar facility can be very scary and hard situation. Colleen has helped mom transition into her new place to the point that mom is very relaxed after only two weeks.
Mom has lived in three different care centres in two years. The staff in every single one of these care homes have commented on how much Colleen cares for Mom and how well she watches out for her.
Even the substitutes for Colleen have all been loving and caring.
I can’t imagine Mom’s life without her, unofficial, adopted daughter!
A better friend and advocate could not be found!
